Is there a German 164 Register?
In the Dutch Register we keep up how many are still driving. Sadly we found out that there are just round 500 164's driving......(In Holland 7500 164's where sold in total)
I'm curious if someone is keeping up a Register for the German 164's.

Wouldn't it be recommendable to use the existing register which you guys in NL, Erwin, have already in use?

We can always put things together, but I find it very interesting what Germany has to offer these days and what can be located.
In NL we, Hendrik (Fasani) and I, try to fill the Dutch Register. Don't fool yourself it's a lot of work... , but very usefull and fun.
At this moment we located abouth 2500 164's from the +/-7500 sold in NL.
Even the wrecked and gone to pieces ones are in the Register.
Now it becomes harder and harder to find a new not registered 164.

In Holland is's easy to find cars because they are register by the license plates, germany has Kreiss/ personal plates.
We can locate cars by searching on some insurence sites, this is a lot of work (to get a idea..since may 1 till now i found almost 1400 not registerd 164 and to get these i had to search over 50000 licence plates..)

What i also do to get chassis numbers i contact people who are selling on internetsites theire 164. Just a small email and explanation will do a lot.
Like Erwin already mentioned, it's a lot of work and my experiance is that it's very hard to get all info.

The way i do is
Open a insurence site fill in the plate numbers HT-LP-52 and ca see what kind of car it is than i also can search from HT-LP-00 till HT-LP-99.

What department in Germany is registrating all cars? is it a option to contact them?

Such an authority does not exist because of Federalism. Each local authority registers the car wherefore it is competent. A register on a higher level which contains details to each registered car exists for police purposes only. Even the Federal traffic authority gets abstract data from the local authorities only.
